The Rappahannock Wildlife Refuge has asked the NNMN for volunteer assistance with their “native plant” gardens. The Refuge has two gardens at their Wilna location, a new garden being planted at their Cat Point location, and another garden at their Hutchinson location where they currently have dedicated volunteer help.
The proposed concept to assist the Refuge is to have volunteer teams dedicated to the care of one or more of the gardens at Wilna and Cat Point. Volunteers from the Refuge’s “Friends” group may also participate on these teams. Each team may plan their care and work division of the garden in coordination with the Refuge staff.
If you are interested in this project opportunity, we are planning an in-person gathering at the Wilna lodge location on Friday, October 21st, starting at 11:00 am and lasting about 2 hours. We will visit each of the 3 garden locations at Wilna and Cat Point to discuss ideas for future care of the gardens. A light lunch will be provided; thus, we would like to have an RSVP reply of your intention to attend. RSVP to ericjhentges@gmail.com and please note if you have a specific dietary need.
