NNMN is working on “EMammal” a Smithsonian Institute program that allows citizen scientists to collaborate with researchers.

Anyone who loves being outdoors and would like to learn more about watersheds and stream monitoring, and who is interested in the animals and plants of the Northern Neck is invited to attend an information session presented by The Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists. These sessions will provide information about the 2019 Basic Training Course to prospective trainees and will be held Saturday, October 13, at 11:30 a.m. at the Northumberland Library (7204 Northumberland Hwy, Heathsville, VA 22473), and Wednesday evening, October 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the Virginia Cooperative Extension Classroom (460 Main Street, Warsaw, VA 22572).

The information sessions will provide an overview of the Virginia Master Naturalist Program, cover the requirements for becoming a Master Naturalist, and review the Basic Training Course schedule and application process. It is not necessary to attend the information session in order to apply for the training class.

The 2019 Basic Training Course, toward becoming a Certified Master Naturalist, will be held from February to May 2019. Classes will be held on Thursday evenings and Saturdays and meet at various locations around the Northern Neck and at least once on one of our rivers and the bay. The class is limited to 25 participants.
